Understand the key concepts of a Gantt chart

A Gantt chart is a visual project management tool that allows you to plan and monitor the progress of the various stages. Here are the four key things you need to know:

1. Sections

Sections correspond to the different phases of the project and include all associated tasks and milestones. They structure the project into distinct stages, offering a clear and organized vision. Each phase can represent a key moment, such as planning, execution, or closure, or be defined by department or sector. 2. Tasks

Tasks represent the specific actions that need to be performed to achieve the goals of a phase or milestone. Each task has an estimated duration and can be linked to others via dependencies. Their gradual realization guarantees the achievement of the project objectives.

3. Milestones

Milestones mark key moments in the project, such as the end of a phase or an important validation. They serve as checkpoints to assess overall progress. Represented by a diamond, milestones have only one due date and allow the project to be structured around strategic

milestones.

4. Dependencies

Dependencies highlight relationships between tasks and/or milestones. They specify the order of execution, such as when a task must be completed before starting another, or when a milestone depends on multiple tasks completed. These links, represented by gray arrows, ensure smooth project management by avoiding blockages and respecting deadlines.
